It's nearly the BEST time of year again: YALC WEEKEND!!! Yup, the weekend where all the wonderful book people converge in one room of dreamy bookish heaven is nearly here. Team Chicken will be setting up camp for the whole weekend – come and visit our stall for some GREAT book chat, discounted YA reads and (of course) freebies! Here's an idea of the stuff we're doing over the weekend ...

MAZE RUNNER code-breaking activity: to celebrate the launch of James Dashner’s new book, The Fever Code, in September, we’ve hidden a bunch of codes around YALC. Come by our stall to grab an answer sheet, crack the codes and be in with a chance of winning some Maze Runner goodies!

#everybodyURTS: you might have spotted our online comp, where we asked people to share the thing that makes them happy in order to win some UNDER ROSE-TAINTED SKIES prizes. We’ve got a real-life version at YALC – come by our stall to add to our ‘happy wall’.

PRIDE & PREJUDICE DRESS-UP: we’re so excited about the launch of Natasha Farrant’s LYDIA that we’re bringing along a bunch of props for you guys to post selfies with – yep, there will be bonnets. Maybe a monocle too.

BOOKS: will be just £5 each! Huzzah!

TIMES/CHICKEN HOUSE YOUNG JUDGE COMPETITION: this year the brilliant Orli Vogt-Vincent was our Young Judge, and she did an absolutely incredible job. If you’re 14-18 and want to know more about how to enter, come and have a chat and we’ll tell you all you need to know! (And if you’re over 18, we can also tell you how you could win a £10k publishing contract…)

Author signings

Kiran Millwood Hargrave, author of THE GIRL OF INK & STARS, will be on our stall for an hour or two from 2.30pm on Saturday 30th, followed swiftly by …

Louise Gornall, author of UNDER ROSE-TAINTED SKIES, who will popping by on Sunday at 1.30pm.

YALC events

NATASHA FARRANT will be doing a workshop on reimagining the classics, and talking about her new book, the Pride & Prejudice-inspired LYDIA: THE WILD GIRL OF PRIDE & PREJUDICE. (Saturday 30th, 10am)

SOPHIA BENNETT will be joining Non Pratt, Chris Russell and Simon Mayo to chat about music in YA, and her book LOVE SONG. (Saturday 30th, 12pm)

CATHERINE DOYLE is doing a workshop on how the films we love inspire our writing – her books VENDETTA and INFERNO were inspired by her love of mob movies. (Sunday 31st, 10am)

TOM ELLEN & LUCY IVISON are also doing a workshop, this time on co-writing – if you’ve seen an event with Tom and Lucy before you’ll know to expect lots of laughter! (Sunday 31st, 12pm)

Other stuff

Bookmarks! Badges! And of course … tote bags! (A beautiful The Girl of Ink & Stars variety, no less)

You can check out the full YALC schedule here. See you there – come and say hi if you're around!
